Michael Klien is a reseracher at Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO). He received his MSc and his doctorate from WU Vienna University of Economics and Business and worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the IAE de Paris, Sorbonne Graduate Business School.


His research centers on the organization and performance of public services, ranging from public economics, political economy, organizational studies to institutional and industrial economics. Current research projects also involve housing and the construction industry as well as public procurement.


Michael has been consulting in a range of related areas such regulation of water utilities and performance measurement (World Bank), local public enterprises (OECD), and benchmarking for power grids (Austrian Energy Regulator).
